Position Overview
The Therapist reports directly to their immediate supervisor and/or the Clinic Director. Collaboration with other professionals and care providers through interdisciplinary teamwork is essential. Adherence to professional ethics is required. The Licensed Therapist diagnoses and treats mental health disorders through counseling. They create personalized treatment plans, assess progress, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. Empathy, communication skills, and relevant certifications are essential.
Licensed Therapists provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Clients range in age from young children to the elderly, and support and education are extended to the significant others of the clients. Additionally, the licensed therapist will provide crisis intervention as needed. All services are provided in accordance with professional ethics and boundaries. Their goal is to improve their clients’ well-being and help them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
Licensed Therapists are required to review treatment planning and coordination of care for patients. Specific treatment interventions are planned and implemented by the therapist independently.
Key Responsibilities
Providing clinical, therapeutic services to individual clients and families, including individual, family, and group therapy, crisis intervention, advocacy, diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning.
Participating in interdisciplinary teamwork and collaborating with community providers as needed.
Ensuring timely and satisfactory documentation of all treatment efforts and progress in adherence to agency standards, the respective licensing board, and COMAR regulations.
Abiding by all safety rules and regulations of the agency and facility.
Maintaining ethical standards as per licensure and performing services in a manner congruent with the mission and values of the agency.
Performing duties as needed to achieve agency goals and maintain quality standards.
Understanding and following directions from supervisors, and complying with agency and county directives, state laws, licensing rules and regulations, and certification standards that cover mental health, ADA, and the chronically mentally ill.
Maintaining electronic case records in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and other federal and state regulations.
Providing assessments, treatments, psychotherapy, case management, and referrals to a broad range of clients, including those who are severely mentally ill and those dealing with adjustment issues.
Providing services via telehealth, in homes, or the office.
Diagnosing and treating mental health disorders.
Facilitating sessions with individuals, groups, or families.
Refer clients to specialists if necessary.
Level of Education/Training/Qualifications
The Therapist must demonstrate appropriate training and experience relevant to the setting. This includes but is not limited to:
Licensed Social Worker (LCSW-C, LCSW, OR LMSW),), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LGPC, LCPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Clear background screening.
Must maintain a professional license in the state of Maryland to provide therapy services.
Experience in providing comprehensive services to the assigned population.
Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, assessment, human development, individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
Clinical competency in treatment planning, advocacy, and clinical skills.
Ability to function effectively on an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
Sensitivity to and understanding of cultural diversity and special needs populations.
Physical Demands
Regularly walk, stand, or stoop.
Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Regularly drive a motor vehicle.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment and may have the benefit of working from home.
