The primary purpose of this position, COMPOSITE/PLASTIC FABRICATOR, WG-4352-07T10, is to repair, modify, fabricate, remove and install composite or plastic parts, assemblies, sub-assemblies or structures with straight and curved surfaces that have a number of interconnecting parts and components. Plan, layout, modify and/or fabricate complex critical configurations to composite assemblies. Operate, maintain and control tools and equipment used in fabrication. Utilize safety practices and procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental WG-07 Target WG-10 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-05). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG - 4300 Pliable Materials Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work encompasses standing, bending, stooping, stretching and working in strained and cramped conditions. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and moves heavier items with assistance from others or with weight lifting equipment. May be required to uncrate or load and move metal/composite parts and other repair items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside and is subjected to noise and vibration from shop machines, high temperatures from curing ovens and heat lamps and to a variety of weather conditions. Work conditions frequently include exposure to dust, fumes, and toxic and/or potentially flammable and explosive chemicals that can cause skin, eye, and lung irritations. Employee also be exposed to injury while operating machines and power tools. Required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing duties. Education Additional Information Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
