Based in Palo Alto, our team is responsible for building computer-vision based solutions for shopping - from using the phone’s camera to search for a product to previewing it in your own living space using AR. Our solutions are available in the Amazon Mobile Shopping app and used by millions of people worldwide every day. We use advanced technologies to leverage our vast catalog of images in ways that dramatically improve the experience of Amazon customers. We tackle complex problems in computer vision, computer graphics, deep learning, image search.

Key Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will be a member of the team that owns the Data Engineering function for the Visual Shopping org. This team manages datasets that act as the final feedback to our group on how well our features are being received by customers. You will build and maintain data pipelines that handle Amazon scale data and make it easily accessible for BIEs and Product team for querying and for generation of reports relevant to business. A great fit candidate for this role would be someone who brings experience building large scale big data systems that can handle petabytes of data.

  1. Design, implement and support an analytical data infrastructure.
  2. Create and maintain data transformation logic, create scalable data solutions.
  3. Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources.
  4. Collaborate with BIEs to recognize and help adopt best practices in reporting and analysis.
  5. Explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency.
  6. Help continually improve ongoing data ingestion, reporting and analysis processes.
  7. Maintain internal reporting platforms/tools.
  8. Write advanced SQL queries and code to develop data solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines.
  • Solid track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting values from large datasets.
  • Hands-on experience and highly advanced knowledge of SQL, Data Modeling, ETL Development, and Data Warehousing.
  • Solid experience using big data technologies (Redshift, MapReduce, Hive, Hbase, Spark, EMR, etc.).
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, and ability to deliver results.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Effective analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions.
  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases).
  • Experience building large-scale, high-throughput, 24x7 data systems.
