Senior Applied Scientist, Amazon Robotics

Job ID: 2808835 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Do you want to create worldwide impact in robotics while solving challenges at the edge of robotics research? Our collaborative team in Amazon Robotics builds high-performance, real-time robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently alongside humans—at Amazon scale. Our mission is to create robots that perform contact-rich tasks safely, efficiently, and dexterously amid the complexity and variety of Amazon warehouses. Our solutions learn from their own experiences, from each other, and from humans to build intelligence that feeds itself.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Applied Scientist to join our Motion Planning and Control team. In this role, you will leverage your experience and insights gained from delivering systems to lead us in developing products that are both innovative and scalable. Collaborating with a world-class team of experts in motion planning, control theory, computer vision, machine learning, and robotic hardware design, you will apply the latest research trends to tackle complex real-world challenges. Together, we aim to achieve high-impact algorithmic advancements in areas such as scene and activity understanding, closed-loop control, robotic grasping, and manipulation in high-contact environments - each of which carries significant value for our current and future fulfillment networks.

Key job responsibilities
• Research, design, implement and evaluate complex motion planning, controls, and decision-making algorithms that improve the performance of systems deployed in real-world conditions.
• Apply recent advances in topics such as planning optimization, model-based controllers, or grasp affordance learning to our systems in the lab and in the field.
• Lead major initiatives, mentor more junior scientists, and raise the bar for applying science to scalable robotic products.
• Work closely with software engineers to drive scalable, real-time implementations.
• Collaborate with experts across disciplines including perception, hardware and software to create intelligent, integrated systems and solutions.
• Represent Amazon in academia community through publications and scientific presentations.
• Work with stakeholders across hardware, science, and operations teams to iterate on systems design and implementation.
