We are seeking a skilled and experienced phlebotomist to join our team. Under general supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist, the candidate will perform blood collection by venipuncture and arterial puncture. Assists in preparation of specimens, operation of selected equipment and clerical duties.

Essential Job Duties

  • Obtains blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients as requested. Techniques include arterial puncture, venipuncture and heel-stick technique.
  • Prepares blood samples for analysis in the laboratory by centrifugation.
  • Maintains venipuncture supplies as necessary and prepares a list for acquisition. Cleans the work areas related to venipuncture.
  • Logs specimens and prepares them for analysis.
  • Checks the files for late results of outside laboratory tests and follows up as necessary.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during the blood collection process.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Perform related duties as requested by the Laboratory Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques and blood collection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of accredited phlebotomy training program
  • Three to six months of experience as a phlebotomist
  • Must be licensed by the State of California
