Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
Shift: Mondays and Tuesdays 10:00A-7:30P, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:00A-5:30P, Fridays 9:00A-3:00P

The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in collecting blood and other specimens for laboratory testing, while ensuring that all procedures are performed accurately and efficiently. This position also includes troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The phlebotomist ensures proper specimen handling, patient care, and compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blood Draws & Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures (blood draws) and other specimen collection tasks (e.g., urine, fecal) as required. Demonstrate correct techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Specimen Handling: Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens as required by the test orders. Ensure proper storage conditions and follow protocols for specimen integrity during transport.
- Documentation & Tracking: Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, ensuring that all data is accurate and complete. Update patient information as needed and record maintenance data.
- Communication with Patients: Clearly explain the blood draw or specimen collection process to patients in a courteous manner, ensuring they are comfortable and informed.
- Compliance & Safety: Follow OSHA and DEP regulations, and comply with laboratory protocols for decontamination and specimen handling.
- Specimen Transport: Package specimens correctly for transport, ensuring they are safely and properly labeled for testing.
- Training & Support: Participate in department training sessions, and assist with troubleshooting and workflow improvements as needed.
- Customer Service: Answer phone calls, assist with laboratory inquiries, and provide information on test results when needed.
- Phlebotomy Certification: Valid certification for the state of employment (required in some states).
- Experience: Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately follow procedures, ensure specimen integrity, and maintain proper documentation.
- 2-4 years of experience as a phlebotomist.
- Experience working in a hospital or high-volume laboratory setting.
- Phlebotomy Certification for the state in which you are employed.
