Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description
Summary: The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
+ Update patient information and ensure the accurate collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures.
+ Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal samples as required.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand all physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport, store specimen samples according to required temperatures, and accurately label and follow procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimens.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
+ Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.
+ Skills in venipuncture, blood draws, specimen processing, data entry, and collection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Customer service experience.
+ Data entry skills.
+ 6 months to 2 years of phlebotomy experience in a fast-paced setting.
Work Environment
Fast-paced patient care setting. The facility sees anywhere from 75 to 100 patients per day.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00
