Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws and preparing specimens with a focus on providing patients with a comfortable and professional experience.

This role requires expertise in specimen collection, labeling, storage, and processing to support high-quality care and ensure accurate laboratory results.

The ideal candidate will work with patients across diverse demographics and maintain adherence to established protocols and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and proper technique.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, maintaining the integrity of each sample.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders and protocols.
  • Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and check test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring compliance with proper storage conditions and transportation guidelines.
  • Explain venipuncture and other collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate records.
  • Handle and decontaminate laboratory equipment while recording maintenance data.
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Attend annual department training and stay updated on lab procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries by answering phone calls and providing laboratory results as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in blood draws and specimen preparation, including centrifuging and labeling.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Proficiency in handling, storing, and packaging specimens per protocol.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with patients across a wide demographic range.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems and medical requisitions.
