The ideal candidate will work with patients across diverse demographics and maintain adherence to established protocols and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and proper technique.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, maintaining the integrity of each sample.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders and protocols.
- Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and check test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring compliance with proper storage conditions and transportation guidelines.
- Explain venipuncture and other collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
- Update patient information and maintain accurate records.
- Handle and decontaminate laboratory equipment while recording maintenance data.
- Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Attend annual department training and stay updated on lab procedures.
- Respond to inquiries by answering phone calls and providing laboratory results as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in blood draws and specimen preparation, including centrifuging and labeling.
- Strong understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Proficiency in handling, storing, and packaging specimens per protocol.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with patients across a wide demographic range.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and medical requisitions.
