We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist - II to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist with various phlebotomy duties, including blood collection, specimen handling, troubleshooting, training, and recommending improvements to workflow. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in venipuncture and specimen processing in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Decontaminate and update patient information accurately.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, ensuring proper storage and temperature control.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) process to patients, as well as other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine, fecal samples).
- Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Ensure accuracy in matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and labeling specimens correctly.
- Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required based on test orders.
- Verify that all test requisitions or computer labels match the prescribed orders for 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature and integrity during transit.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations in all tasks.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
- Answer telephone calls and assist with laboratory result inquiries.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification for the state of employment (required in some states).
- A minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy or laboratory work is preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety and regulatory procedures.
- Phlebotomy Certification required as per state regulations.
- Shift: Mon-Fri (7 am-4 pm) ,7 am-3:30 pm or 7:30-4 pm, Potential for occasional Saturday 6:30am-3 pm based on rotation
Education: High School
