Tubman is seeking overnight shelter advocates to join a dynamic and collaborative team to provide welcoming, supportive, and affirming care to all shelter residents, callers to our 24/7 resource line, and walk-in clients. This is an awake overnight position Saturday-Sunday, 11 pm-7:30 am, every other weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for clients.
  • Complete client intakes and assessments.
  • Provides advocacy and support to 24/7 resource line callers and walk-in clients.
  • Promotes safety and security in the shelter environment through administration of crisis support services, security maintenance, shelter floor rounds, and client de-escalation.
  • Completes shelter operational support tasks, for example, client intake/exit duties, client assistance services, ordering cabs, giving out hygiene items, etc., putting away donations and deliveries, stocking supplies, and cleaning.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, data entry, case notes, and administrative work related to client services.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new staff, interns, and volunteers.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of domestic violence-related issues and systems.
  • Minimum 1-year experience working with victims/survivors of trauma.
  • Ability to welcome and engage a diverse group of stakeholders with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to set and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Understand and work from the agencys set of values and philosophical approaches; including harms-reduction/housing first, trauma-informed care, violence as a learned behavior, client-centered and led work, etc.
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, extensive walking, standing, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Pass DHS Fingerprint Criminal Background Study as required by program licensing


Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in implementing interventions to support complex trauma.
  • Experience in effectively managing crises.
  • Restorative justice experience.


Compensation & Benefits

The salary for the position is $21 per hour, with an additional $2/hour for any hours worked on overnights and weekends.
