The Pastoral Associate of Lay Minister Formation supports the core mission priorities of Accompaniment and Sending as outlined in Archbishop William Lori's A Light Brightly Visible 2.0 - Archdiocese of Baltimore (archbalt.org). St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church is committed to the faithful and spiritual development of our adults, youth and children. Our Pastoral team is here to engage and support our members to "Know Jesus, Love Jesus and Share Jesus" and to encourage each person to fulfill the call to missionary discipleship. This is a full-time ministry position with focus on development of our lay ministers. The hours are Sunday through Thursday. The Coordinator will support programs for Children, Youth, Young Adult and Adult Faith Formation and Adult lay ministries.

Essential Functions:
- Develops, implements and oversees an intentional welcome ministry and process.
- Assesses parish ministry needs and opportunities within the parish, and implements a comprehensive program of lay minister recruitment, management, and recognition. Actively extends the invitation to support the Mission of evangelization to all parishioners in the parish. Pays particular attention to engaging lay ministers who are representatives of the demographics of the Parish.
- Collaborates with parish staff in determining parish needs and capacity for lay ministers; develops job descriptions for Lay ministers as needed.
- Serves as staff liaison for parish organizations and ministries to insure proper leadership, scheduling, temporal resources, training, and coordination. These ministries include but not limited to:
- Liturgical Ministers
- Pastoral Visitors
- Social Justice programs such as outreach to the poor through monthly lunches, food cellar distributions and help from the poor box and other projects for those in need
- Bereavement Ministry, Funeral Hospitality
- Cornerstone Breakfast
- Social groups such as OWLS, and Holy Momas
- Work-camps and mission teams
- Health Care Ministry
- Visitor and New Parishioner Welcome Ministry
- Collaborates with Pastoral Associate for Evangelization in developing and coordinating small faith sharing groups, pastoral visitors, OCIA, OCIC adult leaders, Health Care Ministry, Food Cellar outreach.
- Employs various means to actively reach out to individuals who have recently joined the Parish, including but not limited to new parish registrants, recent converts who have completed OCIA and confirmands, to encourage their engagement in lay ministry opportunities.
- Works with Administrative Assistant to ensure that lay ministers and volunteers satisfactorily complete all requirements of the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection prior to beginning ministry service and at specified intervals thereafter.
- Is present and actively participates in related parish programs and events including weekend liturgies.
- In collaboration with Parish staff, conducts lay minister orientation and coordinates lay minister formation and training.
- Maintains updated records on all lay ministers.
- Develops and implements lay minister recognition programs.
Administrative and other responsibilities:
- Have working knowledge of (or ability to learn) Ministry Platform and other relevant website tools including utilization of social networking and Flocknote email distribution system.
- Provide annual budget information for ministry area and review and manage income and expenses for line items associated with activities, programs, and events as budgeted.
- Reviews and signs, acknowledging the parish emergency response plan.
Safety & Security Training :
- Schedules and records annual training for volunteers and ministers.
- Schedules and actively participates in all safety and security drills and exercises, as well as periodic exercises as deemed appropriate by Parish Director of Operations
Position Qualifications:
- BA/BS in pastoral ministry or theology; knowledge of engaging lay ministers and lay minister management practices
- 3 years or more of Volunteer Supervisory and Leadership experience. Prior experience leading or coordinating lay ministers.
- Practicing and devoted Catholic who is fully able to participate in the Sacramental life of the church.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate the Mission of the Church to others.
- Prior experience in leading or coordinating lay ministers.
- Excellent verbal communication and relational/interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Microsoft office, mass email applications and parishioner engagement data management is preferred.
