Entry-Level Bioinformatician

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • LIMS Operation and Data Handling:
  • Operate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry, retrieval, and basic reporting
  • Handle and organize various types of laboratory and biological data
  • Ensure accurate data input and maintain data integrity within LIMS
  • Bioinformatic Data Quality Control and Troubleshooting:
  • Perform quality control checks on bioinformatic data sets
  • Identify and report data inconsistencies or errors
  • Assist in troubleshooting data-related issues and propose solutions
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and maintenance of genomic and proteomic data analysis pipelines
  • Assist in processing and analyzing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data
  • Perform basic statistical analyses and visualizations
  • Collaborate with team members to understand project requirements and provide support
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports on research findings and analyses

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology, or a related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in bioinformatics, data analysis, or laboratory setting (internships considered)
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R
  • Basic ability to work in Linux/Unix environments
  • Experience with NGS data analysis tools (e.g., BWA, GATK, Samtools)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with LIMS or similar laboratory data management systems
  • Basic statistical analysis skills and experience with statistical software
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Experience working with biological databases and public resources
  • Understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and data integrity principles
