Job Description
Atlas is seeking an Entry Level Staff Engineer in our Civil Engineering/Transportation/Rail Division to join our evolving team in highway, structural, roadway, rail, traffic, and construction inspection. The new team member will be contributing to all aspects of design and plan preparation for roadway, highway, and rail Phase I/II Transportation/Civil engineering projects. Responsibilities may include assisting Project Manager and experienced engineers in field assessment, geometric design, drainage design, traffic studies, plan development, quantity calculations, specifications preparation, community engagement, report preparation, cost estimates, and other related duties. The candidate is anticipated to collaborate closely with other groups on multi-disciplinary projects for the delivery of quality work, on time, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction. Our clients vary from federal, state, and local governments; railroads and transit agencies; and collar county DOTs. The candidate will work in a team environment, tackling challenging assignments, and making sound engineering decisions on projects. General Responsibilities
· Perform engineering and design assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.
· Research design requirements.
· Assist in the preparation of reports and feasibility studies.
· Assist in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates.
· Applying knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
· Applying a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the variety of aspects.
· Keep Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
· Responsible as a member of the project team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformation to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
·Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
· The candidate may be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
· Actively engages herself/himself with multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeking to learn from peers; and encouraging reciprocal learning among team members.
· Keeping informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommending new practices or changes in emphasis of programs.
Requirements:Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
· Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year.
Preferred Qualifications
· Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certified.
· Experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, and CTA (including internships).
· Previous internship experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection.
· MicroStation, Geopak, and OpenRoads experience.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
· Positive attitude with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites.
