UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service." EIIA is currently seeking a Business and Data Analyst to perform the design of information in the EDW, the EWS, the enterprise integration platform (EIP), and the BI platform. The analyst’s responsibilities include monitoring and responding to Connect tickets, gathering and documenting requirements, developing conceptual data models, producing data linkage specifications, and prototyping data structure and analytics to meet various business requirements. The business and data analyst is a data management professional experienced in business and data analysis, data profiling, data integration and design, information delivery and customer experience delivery. The position requires depth of knowledge and skills in enterprise data management methods, relational and dimensional data modeling, source-to-target mapping, and data modeling tools. The incumbent will possess the full range of knowledge and experience in data warehouse development lifecycle and its processes. The incumbent should be familiar with agile project management method and be able to effectively perform needed role in the agile process. To be successful, the analyst will need to exhibit excellent qualities in attention to detail, analytical acumen, facilitating and communication, collaboration with stakeholders and partners, and competing priority management. The analyst needs to have top communication skills at inter-personal level, and in presentation to large group. The emphasis and focus of this position is on the “global view” of UW institutional data, the supporting data architecture and blue-prints for this big-picture view, and the task to translate big-picture view into detailed implementation. The position is cross-cutting, requiring coordination and liaison to internal team roles as well as external groups to ensure broad data integration and business value for UW. The analyst is expected to collaborate easily and effectively with other data management and design team members, in particular Information Architects & Data Modelers, other Business Data Analysts (BAs) and members of the data integration teams. This position will also be outward facing to UW campus administrative and academic units for the assessment of critical information needs and for the promotion of standards and best practices in data design and modeling. The constituency of Information Management (IM), and therefore that of this position, is the entire University, including all campuses. Technical scope requires knowledge of data integration and data warehousing systems and databases, expertise with data modeling tools and processes, and experience with Business Intelligence tools, such as Microsoft Reporting and Analysis Services and Tableau. In general, task complexity includes integration of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) data into enterprise data warehouses and specialized tools, distributed services and applications, and mainframe applications. The scope of tasks to be performed spans all project development phases including planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and support. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Library Sciences, Business administration or related field or experience. Minimum of three years of experience performing progressively more complex business analysis activities such as scope definition, requirements gathering/discovery, business process re-engineering, requirements management, system configuration, contributing to build cycles, and training. Excellent problem-solving skills Experience implementing PMBOK methodologies within a Waterfall and/or Agile SDLC environment. Experience as a business analyst and key contributor in both project and operational support environments. Experience as a key contributor in complex, enterprise-wide collaborative technical projects that have required significant business process change. Proven ability to represent business stakeholders effectively and translate between business and technical requirements. Experience working with both internal and contract resources to solve business problems and implement solutions. Experience preparing for and managing organizational change. Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities. Demonstrated experience with communication tools such as swim lane diagrams, workflow models, use cases, wireframes, etc. Ability to navigate in a complex technology environment. Ability to manage time effectively while working back and forth between project and operational support tasks. Comfortable working with diverse teams, and willingness to promote inclusivity in the workplace. Understanding of SQL for data profiling and data analysis.Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum requirements DESIRED: Experience in an agile software development environment. Desire and ability to learn about and to support existing applications Ability to quickly learn new technologies, as needed Experience in a major research (R1) university setting.
