Great Rivers Greenway, your regional parks and trails district, is seeking 4 Seasonal Field Staff. The seasonal field staff perform greenway operations and maintenance work throughout St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County under the direction of the Greenway Operations Supervisors.
- Seasonal Field Staff work full-time (40 hours/week) Monday through Friday from 7am to 3:30pm.
- Anticipated to start Mid-Spring 2025 and work through Mid-Fall 2025.
- Salary is $17.00 per hour. There are no benefits provided.
Essential Functions
- Work with Greenway Operations team to perform greenway operations and maintenance activities. Activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Watering to establish newly planted landscapes
- Weeding, trimming, mulching, and pruning established landscapes
- Controlling invasive and undesirable vegetation through manual, mechanical or chemical methods
- Installing forbs, shrubs, and landscape trees
- Removing litter and debris from greenway corridor
- Signage maintenance and installation
- Graffiti removal and covering
- Painting
- Work as part of a team to achieve short term and long-term maintenance goals
- Monitor and report the day-to-day conditions of greenways through GIS workorder system
- Maintain equipment and tools
- Act as a Great Rivers Greenway ambassador, providing information about greenways to the public in a friendly and courteous manner
- Consistently demonstrates a climate of courtesy, respect, and professionalism to staff, partners, volunteers, and the public
Position Qualification Requirements
Skills and Abilities: which may be representative, but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
- Knowledge and experience with power tools and equipment including chainsaws, mowers, small power tools, etc.
- Ability to build respect and work effectively with people from a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences and roles
- Accountability: Ability to take ownership of responsibilities, ability to prioritize and take action
- Problem solving skills, judgement and decision-making skills with the ability to be creative and resourceful
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Experience in park operations, horticulture, natural resource management, or landscaping preferred Experience operating and maintaining equipment such as trimmers, chainsaws, backpack blowers, and other landscaping tools also preferred
- Experience driving a truck with trailer is a plus
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
- Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized to work in the US
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:
- Must be able to work in the outdoors in all conditions. Exposure to environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures, biting insects, and poisonous plants is likely
- Must be able to perform physical work such as lifting up to 50lbs, digging, raking, etc. on a regular basis
Additional Requirements:
- Must provide reliable, daily transportation to maintenance facility located near Lafayette Square in St. Louis City
- Ability to work weekdays Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, occasional opportunities to work on Saturdays for volunteer events
