The seasonal Lifeguard Supervisor ensures the safety and enjoyment of patrons at The J's aquatic facilities by maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, as well as preventing and responding to emergencies. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, a high standard of customer service and the ability to serve as a role model and Supervisor to Lifeguards and Head Guards. The position ideally works full time hours April through September to assist with the hiring and training process for summer staff as well as close of season, which has been extended due to a new heater for the pool. This position is especially active Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Responsibilities
- Maintains constant surveillance of pool area and members in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of members in the event of emergency
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with The J policies and procedures.
- Serves as a Supervisor of aquatics seasonal employees, including hiring, training, preparing schedules, and approving time sheets
- Tracks weekly calendar and ensures adequate staff are scheduled for all days and events
- Assists with training seasonal staff, monitoring their performance and coaching for improvement and development
- Performs various maintenance and cleaning duties, performs chemical testing at appropriate times and takes action accordingly
- Coordinates and facilitates the mandatory in-service training required for the guards and tracks their attendance
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned
- Minimum age of 18
- Previous aquatics supervisory or Head Guard experience
- Certifications: Lifeguarding for the Professional Rescuer, CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Able to complete the LG pre-course skills
- Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of pool with clear vision
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
