Position Description: Job Overview:
The role of the Operations Assistant is crucial for the success of the Circle Seafoods Metlakatla Team. This position involves overseeing and organizing the schedules of cooks and housekeeping staff, filling in when needed, running errands, assisting management with department requirements, and pinpointing areas for improvement while implementing effective solutions.This role ensures that the kitchen team upholds high standards of food quality and cleanliness and the assistance of monitoring other departments underneath the operations manager. The Operations Assistant coordinates meal planning with cooks, oversees housekeeping duties, supervising staff, supports the Metlakatla team, and ensures adherence to health and safety regulations.Additionally, the job tasks may include various administrative tasks such as permitting assistance, document creation, filing paperwork, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervising
Implementing state sanitation standards.
Filling in as cook, assistant cook, or housekeeper/cleaner when there are gaps in the schedule.
Report performance of kitchen & housekeeping staff to your supervisor.
Assist in scheduling housekeepers, cooks, and other staff as needed. Ensure that staff show up and fulfill the duties of their set role, document with HR when employees fail to show up or follow proper procedures.
Team Support
Assisting managers as needed, providing support to all departments as directed by the Operations Manager.
Running errands in Metlakatla and Ketchikan.
Employee and visitor pick ups and drop offs throughout the season from the ferry terminal, float plane dock, and airport.
Operational Efficiency
Identify areas of improvement, work with necessary departments to help implement solutions.
Assist in tracking key items needed to ensure that all departments are running smoothly & efficiently.
Documentation and Reporting:
Ability to follow daily and weekly task lists, checking off and dating as necessary. Responsible for inventory of specific department supplies as instructed by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficiency in Google Workspace: Google drive, docs, sheets, and related tools.
1-2 years minimum experience in administrative support roles, ideally within the seafood processing industry or equivalent.
Able to multi-task in a fast paced, physically demanding environment.
Ability to transition between administrative duties and hands-on operational duties daily while maintaining efficiency and focus.
Strong communication skills
Strong time management skills
Valid drivers license
Familiarity with local, state, and federal compliance standards relevant to the seafood or food industry is a bonus.
Work Environment:
This role involves working on your feet for long hours, both indoors and outdoors. Indoors at a desk or other areas of the plant or bunkhouse, outdoors in varying weather conditions such as the rain or cold. Physical activities include lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing, and moving throughout the day. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment is necessary.
Compensation:
This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay. Overtime is 1.5 times the regular hourly rate, working 50-80 hours per week, 5-7 days a week.
