Job Description
This position is responsible for the long-term support necessary for job retention; for example, identifying skills deficits, providing on-site support for skill building, teaching and ensuring appropriate work-related behaviors, evaluating work performance, and providing ongoing feedback to all stakeholders, including customers, employers, & the support team.
Position follows Greater Jasper School Corporation academic calendar.
The Career Coach works directly with the AIM Instructor in collaborating to create a High School/Young Adult AIM Academy program for students with developmental disabilities.. The Career Coach facilitates the acquisition of jobs by the participating students and young adults as they complete their internships within Deaconess Gateway. They work in partnership with the school corporation and Exceptional Children's Coop to increase training and employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Planning /Assessment
- Assist the individual's support team in developing a specific Person-Centered Individualized Support Plan (PCISP) that meets the person's interests, strengths, needs, and desires in employment and skill acquisition.
- Complete quarterly reports on the progress of all persons assigned toward their career and personal goals, assuring ongoing development.
Employer Support/Job Coaching
- Utilize and implement systematic instruction, positive behavior supports, and emotional supports for all persons assigned.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance and support to the employer and co-workers to facilitate natural supports and positive relationships.
- Provide any support or training necessary for employment, including quality and safety practices, travel arrangements, interpersonal skills, benefits, and work incentives.
- Advocate for wage increases, advancements, and additional training annually or per employer procedure.
Development of Community Skills & Employer/Co-Worker Relations
- Provide support and training necessary for the individual to live as independently as possible, including money management, nutrition, shopping, cooking, and emergency situations.
- Teach individual skills and provide connections that allow more independent functioning within the community.
- Make introductions and serve as a bridge builder between individuals and co-workers.
- Provide the necessary support, education and consultation for employers and co-workers.
Advocacy
- Ensure that efforts are managed to approach and implement the individual choices and preferences of each person assigned.
- Communicate and interact with all significant people in the lives of all persons assigned.
- Encourage open-mindedness of all persons served and their families.
- Help to create a balance between work and social time for all persons served.
Requirements:
- Must pass comprehensive Background Checks, TB Test, and Drug Screen required.
- High School Diploma is required, Associate degree preferred.
- Individual must be highly self-directed and adaptable.
- Professionalism a MUST
- Must be able to work with students' preferences, which includes but is not limited to animals, childcare, stocking, retail, cash registers, manufacturing, etc.
- Reliable Transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of vehicle insurance
- CPR/First Aid Certification - SIRS will provide
- Occasional Medium-lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25lbs., repetitive hand motions, fine manipulation, reach/work above and below waist. Ability to exert sufficient grip to pick up a 12 oz. can of soft drink. Work while standing, walking, and in seated position, bend twist, squat.
