Description

The City of Aiken is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Public Services Department.
Examples of Duties

  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and policies of the City of Aiken
  • Safe operation of garbage truck, knuckle boom loader, sweeper, roll off truck, leaf vacuum and other heavy equipment
  • Maintains equipment in good operating condition
  • Reports required maintenance as needed
  • Prepares required documentation

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B in good standing
  • Ability to read maps and cope with outdoor weather conditions
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Physical capabilities of exiting and re-entry of equipment when necessary
  • Ability to retrieve full roll carts and roll them to the street
  • Previous driving experience (preferred)

Retirement

Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
