Heavy Equipment Oiler

The Heavy Equipment Oiler is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, particularly focused on lubricating and servicing large machinery and equipment. This role ensures that equipment such as cranes and loaders are well-maintained and operate smoothly by performing lubrication, fluid checks, and assisting mechanics with repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lubrication of Equipment:

  • Apply lubricants to various parts of heavy equipment, such as engines, hydraulic systems, and moving parts (gears, bearings, pins) according to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Perform routine lubrication of machinery to prevent wear, improve performance, and extend the life of the equipment.

Fluid Checks & Maintenance:

  • Regularly check oil, hydraulic fluids, coolant, and other essential fluids in heavy equipment.
  • Refill fluid levels as needed to ensure optimal functioning of machinery.
  • Change engine oil and hydraulic fluid at scheduled intervals to maintain peak equipment performance.

Refueling Equipment:

  • Refill fuel tanks of equipment before and after use.
  • Ensure proper fueling procedures are followed and monitor fuel levels to prevent downtime.

Inspection and Monitoring:

  • Perform basic inspections of machinery to identify potential issues, such as leaks, loose parts, and wear.
  • Monitor and report any unusual sounds, vibrations, or changes in equipment performance to supervisors or mechanics.
  • Clean equipment to remove dirt, grease, and debris, ensuring all machinery remains in good working condition.

Assist with Repairs:

  • Support heavy equipment mechanics by providing tools, parts, and other assistance during repairs.
  • Help with minor mechanical repairs and component replacements as needed.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, including lubrication schedules, fluid changes, and inspections.
  • Log maintenance and repair activities, reporting any issues or discrepancies to supervisors.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with equipment.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and standards when performing lubrication, fluid maintenance, and fueling tasks.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are kept clean and safe to prevent accidents.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor lubricant and fuel supplies to ensure availability for regular maintenance tasks.
  • Report the need for inventory replenishment and assist in managing parts and tools used for maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certification in heavy equipment maintenance or related fields may be beneficial.
  • Experience: Experience working in a mechanical or maintenance role is preferred but not required. Experience with heavy machinery is an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Basic understanding of heavy equipment operation and maintenance needs.
    • Ability to perform lubrication and fluid checks on large machines.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols and maintenance procedures.
    • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity for handling tools and lifting parts.
    • Ability to perform simple repairs and assist in more complex tasks when needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and crouch to access various parts of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery and operating equipment.
