Summary
Under general supervision, performs journey level heavy equipment maintenance and repairs for the Hays County Transportation Department.
Responsibilities
? Maintains and repairs a variety of diesel heavy equipment, including trucks, loaders, bull dozers, backhoes, water pumps, and paving equipment.
? Diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
? Overhauls and tunes-up gasoline and diesel engines.
? Oil changes and schedule preventive maintenance
? Field repairs on County roadways
? Repairs and replaces clutches and automatic transmissions.
? Repairs electrical systems, including lights, switches, alternators, starters, batteries, and wiring problems.
? Repair vehicles and equipment for various Departments
? Repair light equipment chainsaws, weedeaters, etc
? Repair and replace hydraulic components
? Repairs and replaces fuel and water pumps.
? Repairs disc, drum, air and hydraulic braking systems.
? Repairs and replaces steering linkages and suspension parts.
? Repairs air conditioning and heating systems.
? Prepares vehicles for inspections.
? Welds and fabricates equipment.
? Cleans and inspects parts.
? Test operates equipment.
? Follows safety regulations and guidelines.
? Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Three years experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
? Valid Class C driver's license.
? Osha 10 training preferred
? First Aid/CPR training preferred
