This position performs semi-skilled and manual work in the operation and light maintenance of light and some heavy automotive equipment in the performance of various public works construction and maintenance activities.

  • Salary range starting at $51,126.12 ($24.5799 hourly)
  • Schedule:
    • Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm;
    • Seasonal/snow removal hours required during peak times, including on weekends and overnight hours.

Essential Job Functions The job functions listed herein are neither exclusive nor exhaustive, but are intended to be illustrative of the types of tasks the employee will most likely be expected to perform on a regular basis.   • Operates several sizes of trucks.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Performs landscape terracing and sidewalk maintenance.
  • Assists in sewer maintenance, cleaning and/or building.
  • Assists in street sweeping, cleaning, maintenance and repairs.
  • Assists in seasonal maintenance operations; snow plowing, removal and salting; brush and leaf removal, etc.
  • Installs and maintains traffic signals, street lighting and directional signs.
  • Works in confined spaces to accomplish public works construction and maintenance activities.
  • May perform fleet maintenance; parts look-up, purchasing, and recordkeeping.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to use computers with windows-based programs.
  • Ability to report for emergencies off hours, including on weekends and overnight hours.
  • Must be able to use computers with windows-based inventory programs, as well as performing monthly fuel reporting as assigned.

Requirements of Work
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and 1 - 3 years of experience in public works construction and the operation of construction equipment and machinery; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:

Knowledge of
  • Materials, methods, practices, techniques and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance projects.
  • The operation of standard automotive construction equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and the proper safety methods and procedures used to avoid or minimize risks.
  • Inventory control and management
Ability to
  • Understand and carry out instructions.
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Perform light to heavy physical tasks under varying weather conditions, and to work in confined spaces (training provided).
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and the general public.
  • Perform monthly fuel reports and fuel site inspections.
  • Work with computers and Microsoft based programs (excel, word, Etc.)
Skill in
  • Operating all types of tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Snow removal operations using plow, wing, and salter.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license; CDL with A, B, C, D and (N preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire) endorsements;
  • the ability to complete a pre-employment post offer physical to include drug and alcohol screening upon hire, and random drug and alcohol screens thereafter.

  • Work is performed mostly outdoors; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate tools, vehicles and various types of construction equipment.
