Job Description
The non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f).
Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. Essential Functions:
- Manage maintenance activities and/or equipment operations at the local places of performance
- Develop maintenance procedures, ensure implementation, allocate workload, supervise contractor employees, and monitor equipment status
- Monitor and manage relationships with the customer
- Keep maintenance logs, report on daily activities, as well as
- Ensure health and safety policy adherence
- Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools
- Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency
- Welds broken parts and structural members
- May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment
- May repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines
- Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.
- Adhere to PTi quality, safety, and environmental standards
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- May be required to attend the Government provided Section 608/609 certification training
- Must be available during operating hours
- May be required to be available up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during key events and increased OPTEMPO
- Subject to mandatory drug testing as required
- May be required to handle equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
- Able to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies as applicable to the position.
- Ability to work inside and/or outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp, and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies.
- Able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
- Two years of experience inspecting and troubleshooting mechanical and electronic components on a wide variety of heavy-duty military vehicles using computerized diagnostic equipment, and repairing, cleaning, and replacing defective parts of components and systems
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
- Skilled in planning, controlling, executing, multi-tasking, and being responsible for the successful completion of work requirements
- Ability to effectively read and write in English, comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical tasks, and communicate effectively
Certificate, License, Registration, etc.:
- Shall possess a certificate from a Vocational Technical School for vehicle or equipment mechanic, or have graduated from any Vehicle, Equipment, or Power Generation Mechanic Advanced Individual Training (AIT) e.g., 91 Series Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) or other DOD equivalent training.
- Valid driver's U.S. state-issued Class A CDL
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if required
- Completion of contractual and company-mandated training applicable to the position
Education
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
