About the role

The Forterra Test team is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer with a focus on component and module
testing. The Hardware Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring our new hardware designs meet Forterra's
design requirements.

Forterra is a fast-growing company expanding our autonomy solution across multiple vehicle platforms.
The Hardware Test Engineer role will specify testing to comply with regulations and standards, but will also need to understand when the standards are not applicable or are insufficeient to ensure success in our expanding use-cases.

What you'll do

  • Generate test procedures to verify hardware requirements at the module and component level
  • Identify software and hardware needs to execute the test procedures; designing, building, or sourcing as necessary
  • Execute or oversee the execution of the test procedures, recording data and observations
  • Performing validation and qualification of designs through analysis and/or hardware testing.
  • Write test reports, summarizing the results and generating defect tickets for the appropriate stakeholders
  • Regularly report on status and timelines to complete tasked work
  • Attend design reviews and provide feedback to the hardware team on new designs
  • Participate in requirement reviews to provide feedback to stakeholders on the feasibility of requirements and how they would need to be verified
  • Tailor testing requirements to ensure test procedures are suitable for the intended applications and operating conditions
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering with at least 2 years performing hardware testing
  • Experience conducting testing per MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-464, DO-160 or similar standards.
  • Experience and knowledge around instrumentation using a wide variety of sensors (strain gauges, thermocouples, load cells, etc.).
  • Understanding of automotive electronics and a familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethernet, CAN, and LIN.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB and/or other programming languages suitable for data collection and analysis
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Working understanding of command-line Linux or similar operating system
  • Experience with automotive and defense safety standards such as ISO 26262 and/or MIL-STD882E.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, hands-on abilities, and working knowledge of common test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electric load, current sensors, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and LISNs)
  • Candidate should be a flexible team player with good oral and written communication skills, and able to work effectively in a very fast-paced environment with team members from many different disciplines

Education & Experience
  • BS degree or greater in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Engineering with proven experience writing, conducting, and troubleshooting hardware in test.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems independently.
  • Exceptional documentation and communication skills.
US Salary Range
$130,000-$170,000

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra's overall compensation package. The pay range for this role is:

130,000 - 170,000 USD per year (ARC)
