The Center for Vision Technologies (CVT) develops and applies its algorithms and hardware to be able to see better with computational sensing, understand the scene using 2D/3D reasoning, understand and interact with humans using interactive intelligent systems, support teamwork through collaborative autonomy, mine big data with multi-modal data analytics and continuously learn through machine learning. The Vision Systems Lab in CVT is looking for a creative and energetic Sr/Principal Hardware Architect with experience in digital and analog hardware circuit design and practical background in electrical engineering capabilities and machine learning. A successful candidate needs to demonstrate the ability of conducting state-of-the-art research, preferably in the areas of computer vision, hardware co-design, efficient edge computing, and system architecture design. The goal of the research is to develop processing architectures for imaging, vision, RF, and other sensing domains. The right candidate will possess a strong technical background in machine learning algorithms, algorithm hardware mapping, hardware architectures and leverage skills for working across different programs and teams. Responsibilities Conduct basic and applied research in sensor processing and machine learning, with particular focus on hardware co-design and processing architecture development. Understand hardware architectures to enable novel co-design of algorithms and hardware. Effectively lead and contribute to the development and the integration of operational prototypes based on research and investigate their deployment to real world operations. Seek, develop, and champion new commercial, venture, and government opportunities. Write and win proposals as part of a team to actively seek funding from various government and commercial agencies. Give technical and business presentations to external clients, academic and government/industry audiences and to internal staff and management. Support development of new intellectual property within government, commercial, and internally funded programs to enable new ventures and commercial opportunities. Qualifications PhD or Master's in electrical engineering or computer science with an emphasis in machine learning, algorithm understanding for hardware co-design and assisting a hardware development team to implement embedded systems. Minimum of 5 years of relevant post schooling research and algorithm co-design experience. Due to government requirements candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. Current active clearance is a plus. Willing to take on a Principal Investigator (PI) role, leading related technology areas through advancement and proposal/funding opportunities with clients. Experience in basic and applied research including publications, conference, and journals such as computer vision, machine learning, hardware and algorithms, digital design. Good presentation, written skills and ability to champion ideas to successful completion. Ability to lead projects and people, as well as skills to work as a part of a team to achieve technical and project goals. Work effectively and successfully on multi-skilled teams. The salary range is: $180,000-$239,166. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
