Classification: Part-time with the potential for full-time. Morning, evening, and weekend shifts required.


Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and customer-oriented lead cashier to join our hardware store team. As a lead cashier, you will demonstrate excellence in customer service while also assisting the Cashier Supervisor to lead and supervise cashier personnel. At O&G Hardware, it is our goal to “build people of character to provide excellence in customer service.” As a leader, you will be held to the highest standard and we expect that you lead by example both on and off the job. Lead cashiers will also assist with retail store operations ensuring that our customers have the best experience possible.


The ideal candidate is positive, goal-focused, team-driven, loves serving others, and believes that hard work brings good rewards. Our candidate will have demonstrated experience as a retail cashier with some experience in other areas of retail work.


Work Environment: Work is performed in an industrial retail space with time occasionally spent in a warehouse. The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. The volume is usually quiet to moderate.

Primary Responsibilities:


• Customer Service: Greet customers with a warm and friendly attitude, assist them in locating products, and answer any inquiries they may have about our store's offerings. Ensure customers receive needed assistance locating, purchasing, and delivering items to their vehicles.


• Cash Handling: Using a computerized sales system, efficiently process cash, credit, debit, and other forms of payment accurately and securely. Maintain a balanced cash drawer throughout your shift and perform end-of-day reconciliation.


• Point-of-Sale Operations: Operate the cash register and scanning system effectively, ensuring timely and accurate checkout of products.


• Employee Training and Development: Assisting Cashier Supervisor to hire, develop, and schedule employees to ensure we have qualified, capable staff available to serve our customers.


• Culture Literacy: Inspire and motivate staff to align with our desired culture of teamwork, positivity, accountability, and customer service excellence.


• Product Knowledge: Develop a basic understanding of the store's inventory to assist customers in finding the right products and upselling relevant items at the checkout counter.


• Returns and Exchanges: Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policies, ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to guidelines.


• Product and price verification: Search store and vendor inventory visually and with computer systems to locate products as needed. Conduct price checks when necessary to resolve discrepancies and ensure pricing accuracy.


• Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, including the counter, registers, and surrounding space. Assist with store cleanliness as available. Occasionally support sales associates with inventory management or store organization.


• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other employees, such as sales associates and managers, to address customer concerns and enhance overall store performance.


• Adherence to Policies: Comply with all store policies, including security measures, dress code, and safety regulations, to ensure a secure and pleasant shopping environment.

Requirements:

Experience, Education and Certifications Desired:

· High school diploma preferred, but not required.

· Minimum 1 year experience as a retail store cashier (current employees who have demonstrated successful completion of cashier competencies exempted)

· 6 months experience supervising employees preferred
