Snap Lab is home to our hardware products with a world-class research & development team. We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.

We’re looking for an Audio Hardware Engineer, Devices to join Team Snap!

What you’ll do:

  • Drive Snap Lab audio programs through all phases of development, from R&D to prototype, mass production, and in-field performance for best-in-class wearable audio. This includes:

    • Microphone and speaker component selection and system integration for high fidelity, small form factor product

    • Partnering with key internal stakeholders such as PD, ID, and SW to make system design tradeoffs for mounting, sealing, water-proofing, mesh selection and volume requirements

    • Collaborate closely with Audio SW Team to develop test setups, create procedures and execute solutions to ensure high performant audio capture, playback and related features

  • Manage outside vendors – including custom transducer vendors, custom speaker vendors, and test houses

  • Work with the contract manufacturer and test team to bring up factory test fixtures and test procedures driving GR&R and test fixture sequence development

  • Execute failure analysis, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions as needed

  • Define and audit stage gates and milestones; delivering regular updates to senior leadership while meeting aggressive schedules for ambitious products

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of acoustic and electroacoustic theory

  • Experience with laboratory and factory test fixture and procedure development including soundcheck or other audio SW tools

  • Experience with simulation tools to assist with tradeoffs in early stage development

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience sharing results with team members and leadership

  • Experience scripting in Matlab or Python

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Acoustical Engineering or a related field (Electrical, Mechanical, Applied Physics)

  • 5+ years relevant experience

  • Hands-on experience and demonstrated ownership of audio HW capture, playback, and tuning through all stages of product development

  • Ability to travel up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in a relevant field

  • Demonstrated experience delivering on both speaker and microphone solution for a consumer electronic product at scale

  • Custom transducer design experience

Compensation:

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): The base salary range for this position is $184,000-$276,000 annually.

Zone B: The base salary range for this position is $175,000-$262,000 annually.

Zone C: The base salary range for this position is $156,000-$235,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
