In this role, the candidate will work within the Mac Hardware organization in the area of SerDes I/O validation for Mac Platforms. This will include I/O Compliance flow bringup, and execution of Apple is seeking a System EE for MacBook Pro electrical & system design integration. The candidate will architect, design, implement, test, and debug the electrical subsystem of the world’s best professional portable computers within a collaborative cross-functional team. Our engineers rely on skills in computer system architecture, schematic design, digital and analog circuits, power and voltage regulator integration, high speed signal integrity concepts, PCB design, bring up and system level troubleshooting to surprise and delight millions of customers. Description

Day to day tasks involve electrical design (both schematic capture and PCB layout), simulation, bringup, debug, and validation for Macs. You will be involved in designing the electronics that go inside Apple MacBook Pro laptops. EEs are responsible for both schematic capture and coordinating layout of highly constrained multilayer PCBs, including HDI and fine pitch BGAs. Overcome complex design challenges requiring Signal Integrity and Power Integrity optimization required by Apple Silicons, as well as achieving the best electrical system design for Performance and Thermal. Routine responsibilities also include bring-up, validation, factory build support, and multi-disciplinary cross-functional collaboration and negotiation. We are looking for well-rounded candidates with a broad set of skill and interests, and the curiosity to dig deep wherever necessary to solve challenging problems. Opportunities exist to sample a variety of technology areas, and to remain general or specialize over time to develop subject matter expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong EE fundamentals, grounded in a solid understanding of EE core with an understanding of computer and system architecture and the associated design choices/tradeoffs.
  • Working knowledge of design and validation requirements for common low-speed and high-speed digital interfaces: I2C, SPMI, SPI, JTAG, USB2/3, MIPI, PCIe, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, LPDP, DDR, LPDDR
  • Experience in circuit design for a variety of domains including power, digital, analog, high-speed communications, programmable logic, and/or wireless.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB Layout using Cadence tools or similar
  • Highly motivated individual, with aptitude of curiosity, learn, creativity, and tendencies to lead and initiate.
  • Experience or interest in the Machine Learning application in the field of EE board or circuit design and EE validations.
  • Experience with Lab PCB bringup and debug, with SW/FW collaboration. Lab experience includes utilizing soldering, DMM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer.
  • Experience with interactions with Factory for new product development and mass production, including initiating HW test and performed failure analysis and triage.
  • Experience with complex data analysis, data visualization, and script development
  • 4-7+ years overall experience

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
