Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a candidate to support the Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team at the Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA site. The group is responsible for vehicle flight control and safety. The Hardware Avionics group manages subsystems including Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Radar Altimeter (RadAlt), Air Data System (ADS), flight actuation system, Vehicle Management Computer (flight computer), and the Ethernet switch. General duties will include flight computer subsystem lab testing, flight test support, anomaly resolution, and supplier management.

Team members perform proposal development, technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. They ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. They also perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies.

This position can be filled at either the Principal Engineer or the Sr. Principal Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience for Principal Engineer Avionics.
  2. Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience for Sr. Principal Engineer Avionics.
  3. Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance (US citizenship is a pre-requisite).
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Visio), Matlab.
  5. Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, multi-meters).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
  2. Good understanding of general avionics components.
  3. Flight Test experience: Some experience.
  4. Supplier management: Some experience.
  5. Requirements development: Some experience.
  6. Requirements verification testing: Some experience.
  7. Prior experience as a military, civil, or commercial avionics technician.

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
