Job Description
Salary: $75,000 - $90,000, depending on experience and qualifications
Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Associate VP of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Generalist will manage critical HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, and professional development programs to ensure alignment with the University’s core values of collaboration, excellence, innovation, integrity, justice and scholarship. This team member will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure consistent human resource practices are followed and that the University is compliant with federal and state employment law. The Senior HR Generalist is expected to be a resource on HR matters for all employees. Additional responsibilities include participation in University-wide initiatives and management of human resources projects.

This position may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement after 90 days, which could include a work from home option a couple of days a week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee Relations:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, providing guidance on employee relations issues, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations matters, conduct investigations, resolve complaints, and address employee concerns with professionalism and discretion.
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Professional Development:
- Design and implement professional development and training programs to support employee growth, leadership development, and skill enhancement.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to develop HR specific training related to hiring, interviewing, performance management, and compliance.
- HR Strategy & Compliance:
- Support the development and execution of HR strategies that align with the University’s strategic plan.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies, ensuring consistency with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Serve on University-wide committees or work groups as requested to develop relationships, build trust, and represent HR in a positive and professional manner.
- Assist other HR team members in completing HR duties when requested.
- Serve as a member of the HR Compensation Committee and participate in reviewing job descriptions, assigning grades to positions, and recommending salary adjustments, where applicable.
- Administer all aspects of unemployment claims for the university and health clinics, including responding to claims, coordinating required documentation, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of related invoices.
- Other Duties as Assigned by the Associate VP of Human Resources.

Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of HR experience with a focus on employee relations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Upholds high ethical standards and demonstrates integrity in all actions and decision-making, fostering a culture of trust and accountability
- Strong knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Skill in managing complex HR issues, including employee investigations and terminations.
- Some exposure to developing employee and managerial training programs.
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and follow-up to ensure completion of projects.
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new assignments.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
- Proficiency in HR software, Google and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- SHRM/HRCI certification.
- Experience in the higher education industry.
- Demonstrated success in creating and delivering professional development and leadership programs.
