Wastewater Operator Job Description

Wastewater Operator Job Duties: Duties preformed of a Water and/or Wastewater Operator, will be required to operate various City equipment, maintain water and wastewater systems, maintain streets, and perform various duties as required. Respond to city hall work orders for sewer calls, maintain sewer and wastewater system, perform duties at wastewater plant to maintain system in working, maintain service equipment such as heavy machinery, (backhoe, Skidster), sewer truck, and on call truck, check manholes and any maintenance related issues.

Duties assisting Water Department include but not limited to:

  • Make water service connections
  • Repair water leaks
  • Read water meters and record data
  • Shut off and turn on water meters
  • Operate water system and record data
  • Perform general maintenance on water system
  • Install water mains
  • Operate backhoe proficiently
  • Assist other department employees in various job duties
  • Perform various other duties as assigned
  • Install sewer service connections (tap sewer mains)
  • Install and repair sewer mains
  • Maintain sewer mains and manholes
  • Maintain sewer pump stations
  • Operate sewer plant, pump stations and record data
  • Remove and replace sewer pumps
  • Perform general maintenance on sewer system

Requirements: ______________________________________________________________________

High School Diploma or GED

Must have a valid driver’s license

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

Training will be Provided

WORKING CONDITIONS: ___________________________________________________________

The Maintenance Serviceman works in a variety of situations including construction sites, treatment plant, confined spaces, driving a vehicle in and around public streets and privately owned lots, as well as in various types of weather and weather conditions. The position is normally a 40-hour week, although some overtime could be required. Will be scheduled for “on call” duty after normal working hours, as needed. $18.02 after 90 days
