POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Specialist should be a self-starting professional who is comfortable using analytics. The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for preparing and reviewing financial documents, statements, and reports. The Accounting Specialist will support the Business Office, monitoring University finances, helping with budget expansions and financial advice. The Accounting Specialist will assist the campus community, to include students, when engaged through the appropriate channel, to help answer questions/concerns relating to financial accounts.

The Accounting Specialist will assist the campus community, to include students, when engaged through the appropriate channel, to help answer questions/concerns relating to financial accounts.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule;
- Responsible for accounting, analysis and reporting for payroll;
- Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations;
- Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances;
- Assist with financial and tax audits;
- Assist with preparing University reporting requirements;
- Reviews and recommends modifications to accounting systems and procedures;
- Reviews accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations to various ledgers, registers, journals and logs following established accounting procedures, makes or directs the correcting entries;
- Serves as backup with monthly reconciliation of investment accounts;
- Reviews the quarterly fixed asset schedules and journal entries into the general and fixed asset subsidiary ledgers;
- Manage the Payroll email
- Other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Strong understanding of accounting theory
- 3+ years accounting/finance experience
- Experience in fund accounting or higher-education preferred
- Three years of payroll experience preferred
- Working knowledge of Jenzabar CX preferred

- Experience on PC based computerized accounting systems.
- Microsoft Office proficiency Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook

SUPERVISION
- This position reports to the Controller
SALARY RANGE
- $50,000 to $55,000.00 Annually based on qualifications and experience, plus benefits!
