Job Summary

The Manager, Accounting will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and operational activities related to Shake Shack's company owned revenue streams which include but are not limited to point of sale (POS) system sales, accounts receivables, and collections. This individual will provide strategic support and analysis as needed for departmental and company-wide initiatives such as establishing new revenue streams. The Manager, Accounting is responsible for supporting all aspects of Shack Sales and Cost of Sales. In addition, this individual is expected to have a sufficient understanding of internal control concepts to assess the design and effectiveness of the controls in their areas and to enhance processes and controls, where appropriate. The Manager, Accounting is a self-motivated, adaptive, quick learner who can manage and prioritize an evolving workload in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a highly analytical mindset, strong work ethic, heightened attention to details, and a desire for continuous process improvement.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Reviewing POS and inventory system reconciliations, period-end journal entries, account reconciliations, account analyses, and facilitating period-end closings by ensuring accurate and timely completion of the accounting team's close-related responsibilities.
  • Collaborating with Marketing, Operations, and IT to establish new revenue streams.
  • Process improvements which include reviewing existing processes and systems to identify improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization, and optimization, especially in the reduction of manual, Excel-based activities, and driving the reduction of the close timeline by assessing and streamlining close-related activities.
  • SOX compliance which includes maintaining ownership of SOX key controls related to owned accounts and processes and facilitating both internal and external audits ensuring complete, timely, and accurate responses to information requests.
  • Coaching and team development which includes managing a team of two accountants; helping them grow professionally by performing regular check-ins, performance reviews, and establishing goals that are aligned with overall department and company objectives.
  • Supporting Tax Team with various sales tax filings and sales tax audits.
  • Supporting annual audit and quarterly reviews which includes ensuring information flow between external auditors and other partners, preparing balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses, and providing requested support to Tax and Financial Reporting and adhering to external reporting timelines.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and SOX required.
  • Experience with Aloha by NCR POS system preferred.
  • Experience with Crunchtime Inventory Management system preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

Master's Degree preferred.

Education or Certificate Details
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred.
Work Experience

4-6 years

Supervisory Experience

1-3 years

Related Experience
  • Minimum 4+ years of working experience in accounting roles.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience at "Big 4" public accounting firm preferred.

Pay Range - $98,860.00 - $126,060.00
