Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Local 2719 bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
* WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show at least one (1) year of full-time experience in general ledger accounting which includes each of the following: preparing financial statements, monitoring budgets, payroll, purchasing and inventory. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
* EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
* EQUIVALENCY: Work experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is five (5) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)

* Maintains and reconciles journals, ledgers and various other financial records utilizing accounting and other financial systems and software (e.g., Lotus, Microsoft, Excel, Access etc.).
* Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares requisitions, Departmental Invoices, etc.; maintains and/or assists in maintaining Department's inventory, generates reports and enters payroll as requested or required.
* Records, assigns and audits payments for Department's fiscal transactions.
* Assists in collecting, recording and depositing funds received by Department.
* Takes periodic trial balances and reports on the condition of accounts; prepares information for financial statements, reports and tabulations.
* Prepares special reports in connection with fiscal records and supply orders as requested or required.
* Studies assigned accounting problems and recommends revision in forms, account classifications and statements within the framework of City and other pertinent governmental regulations.
* Assists in the preparation of Department's or Division's budgets.
* May prepare legislation as requested or required; contracts for approved goods and services; assigns contract number(s) to purchase requisitions and determines appropriate code account to be charged.
* May maintain personnel and payroll records as requested or required.
* Performs activities and functions of related personnel as assigned or required.
