Overview:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager at Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC) oversees general accounting, including payroll, within the Finance Department. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of general accounting staff and ensures that essential functions of the department are performed in a timely and accurate manner. These essential functions include timely and accurate reporting of financial results for TCRHCC and Navajo Hopi Health Foundation (NHHF), preparation of General Ledger journal entries, oversight of payroll preparation for employees and filing of required taxes and governmental reports. Serve as subject matter expert on technical accounting matters - analyze and provide recommendations of any proposed accounting standards before implementation The Accounting Manager reports to the Director of Finance and serves as a backup to the Director of Finance in his or her absence.
Qualifications:
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience performing general accounting, payroll or related financial functions with at least two (2) of those years served as a department head or supervisor of three (3) or more employees.
- Minimum of one (1) year performing financial functions in an inpatient hospital, large outpatient clinic or large physician practice
Other Skills and Abilities:
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:
- Demonstrates strong technical knowledge of general ledger systems, payroll process, and accounts payable process.
- Demonstrates expert-level technical accounting knowledge and strong analytical abilities.
- Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high-level of accuracy, attention to detail and timely follow-through.
- Develops positive relationships with subordinates, hospital management, the medical staff, and other hospital staff; no history of complaints.
- An ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Possesses excellent communication skills and demonstrates skill in sharing information with department staff, other department heads, senior leadership and governing bodies in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Completion of and above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews, demonstrating to the satisfaction of the interviewees and TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job

This position requires an individual with high energy that can maintain a long and flexible schedule to meet the leadership requirements of this position. Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage full-cycle accounting functions on day-to-day basis (including Payroll, Accruals, Grants, Fixed Assets/Depreciation, etc.).
- Prepare and oversee preparation of accurate General Ledger journal entries within established monthly time frames.
- Maintain analyses of Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis to ensure accurate reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial closing and related financial reporting on monthly, quarterly and annual basis for areas of responsibility.
- Produce accurate monthly and annual financial reports for the TCRHCC Board, NHHF Board, Senior Leadership and department managers within established time frames.
- Provide periodic training to hospital management on the use and interpretation of financial reports.
- Establish, develop, and implement accounting policies and procedures; determines financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Oversee and monitor the timely and accurate payroll process through coordination with Human Resource and other departments; be compliant with all applicable law and regulations.
- Ensure that payroll taxes, 401(k) plan payments, federal benefit payments and other related liabilities are filed accurately and sent to the appropriate agencies in a timely manager.
- 10. Supervise staff in an effective manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Monitor 638 contract and other government payments to ensure accurate accounting and prompt resolution of deficiencies.
- Manage cash balances in TCRHCC and NHHF bank and investment accounts in accordance with established policies.
- Support Director of Finance in work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings. Assist in monitoring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting.
- Assist Director of Finance in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department. Provide training to new and existing staff as needed. Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Serve as acting Director of Finance in his or her absence.
- As requested, perform various financial analyses and examinations of financial aspects of operations.
- Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering face piece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
- Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
- Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
