Overview:

General Description of the Job Class

  • Responsible for performing simple specified nursing duties related to patient care, vital signs, assisting the nurse with non-sterile and sterile surgical/wound dressings and patient observation, unit secretary duties as instructed.
  • Assists in preparation of supplies and maintain cleanliness and order in wound care.
  • Performs secretarial and general office work under the general direction of a managerial position
  • May prepare reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Responsible for the management of patients requiring HBOT treatments.


Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Prepares / readies computer for needed daily processes each morning.
    • Scheduling
    • Registration
    • Appointment Book

  • Checks phone messages, accurately follows protocol established to communicate phone messages, is timely with answering phone throughout the day and is aware of and practices good guest relations with phone communication

  • Performs the registration process throughout the day in a timely manner

  • Schedules patients for all Rehab Departments with no computer errors and is able to process special scheduling requests from therapists and our patients

  • Prints bill checks

  • Performs charge entry for all Rehab Departments. Is accurate with charge entry process as documented by the billing reconciliation process. Is timely with charge entry process by completing within 24 hours

  • Call physicians and physician office personnel to obtain necessary physician orders and is able to secure all needed orders by the patients first visit / initial evaluation by therapists
  • Assembles new patient charts and has ready by the patients first visit / initial evaluation

  • Performs Quality Improvement phone calls in a timely basis for:
    • No Shows
    • Reminder calls for patients first visit / initial evaluation
    • EMG / NCV patient reminders

  • Prints Wound Clinic stickers for evaluations

  • Scans Wound Clinic evaluations for E-sign

  • Faxes Wound Care evaluations to out of town physicians

  • Prints nail patient treatments from Meditech

  • Prints and prepares therapists patient schedules for the following day

  • Reconciles charge entries for Rehab Departments

  • Prints Wound Clinic inpatient and outpatient evaluations and readies for scanning process

  • Assists Rehab Director with miscellaneous duties and special projects to include all Rehab Departments

  • Assists Rehab Business Office Supervisor with miscellaneous duties and special projects to include all Rehab Departments

  • Monitors vital signs (B/P, Temperatures (all), Pulse, Resp
  • Keeps unit clean and neat
  • Answers lights promptly and with courtesy
  • Cleans and makes unit ready to receive new patients
  • Checks patients in
  • Identifies patient properly
  • Assists with lifting correctly
  • Proper use of wheelchair and transfer of patient to w/c
  • Transfers patient from bed to stretcher and transports
  • Weighs patient with bed scales and regular scales
  • Passes and picks up patient trays
  • Observes patients condition and reports abnormal reactions and changes in patient condition to supervisor immediately
  • Collects specimens (urine, stool and sputum)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to use equipment pertaining to patient care. Maintains and cleans equipment
  • Uses mechanical patient lift
  • Completes assignments in a timely manner
  • Cooperates with members of the medical team in coordinating patients total care needs

  • Accepts patient referrals for HBOT evaluation and coordinates scheduling with the HBOT physician
  • Assists the HBOT physician in obtaining H&P information, assessment data and diagnostic testing which is needed to complete the HBOT evaluation process
  • Informs referral sources and other care providers of acceptance or non-acceptance of patients for HBOT
  • Assists the HBOT physician in obtaining all required consents
  • Orients patients to the HBOT physical environment
  • Completes patient instructions and applicable checklists prior to initiating treatment. Reviews all indications, and risks as benefits of HBOT with the patient
  • Documents all patient teaching and the patients response in the medical record
  • Assists the HBOT Medical Director and other team members to develop a comprehensive plan of care
  • Implements the plan of care
  • Evaluates the plan of care with appropriate documentation
  • With the HBOT medical Director, serves as a resource for the management of complicated patients
  • Delivers direct patient care in a competent professional manner according to written policies and procedures and Standards of Care
  • Documents care provided in an accurate, concise manner
  • Participates in the ongoing review of applicable HBOT patient care activities, policies, procedures and practices
  • Maintains a safe HBOT environment
    • Prepares the chamber in accordance with all safety regulations and guidelines
    • Adheres to all policies and procedures relative to safety, including inspections and emergencies
    • Participates in safety related in-services and activities
    • Ensures that all patient related safety measures are completed
    • Continuously monitors and observes all HBOT patients
    • Maintains compliance with OSHA guidelines
    • Adheres to policies and procedures for cleaning and decontamination of the chambers
    • Immediately reports any deviation from safety guidelines to supervisor
  • Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with patients and other members of the health care team

Qualifications:

Qualifications at this Level

Required

Preferred

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent

One or more of the following prerequisite preparations completed:

RN, LPN, RRT or CRT, Certified Hyperbaric Tech or Diving Med Tech, EMT or Paramedic

Other ancillary medical and/or diving positions as approved

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years health care experience

Previous HBOT experience

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

BLS certification

Completion of approved Hyperbaric Med Course within 3 months of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

Working knowledge of Medical Terminology, typing and computer skills
