American Sign Language Staff Interpreter
Type: Full and Part Time schedules available
Shift: Various, weekend availability required
Wage: $28-45/hour DOE
Benefits: Employee Medical Benefits starting at $17.50 per pay period for Regence or Kaiser, for full-time employees.

Avamere at Chestnut Lane is a Deaf and DeafBlind Community.
Proficiency in American Sign Language and Tactile Sign Language is necessary for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services appropriate for the language and the cultural background of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, or hearing residents and staff through the use of American Sign Language (ASL), English, and/or tactile ASL.
- Coordinates the work of staff within interpreting role to ensure compliance with company standards and policies.
- Coordinates with outside agencies to secure additional interpreters as needed.
- Works effectively in teams with other sign language interpreters.
- Adheres to the standards of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
- May provide front desk or other similar support as needed.
- Maintains good attendance, is prompt and comes to work on assigned days.
- Attends and participates in required facility in-service and trainings.
- Follows company policy and procedures. Adheres to the corporate compliance program and standards of conduct.
- Demonstrates ethical and appropriate workplace behaviors.
- Assist Executive Director with ensuring all employees are providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Develops and maintains a good working rapport with other departments within the facility to assure that daily activities can be performed without interruption.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to your immediate supervisor.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
- Reports all incidents/accidents immediately. Reports occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious waste or hazardous chemicals to supervisor
- Follows safety regulations in the use and maintenance of equipment and
supplies. - Reports all unsafe or hazardous conditions or equipment immediately
- Follows infection and exposure control procedures to prevent the spread of disease and infection. Uses protective clothing/devices when handling infectious waste and/or body fluids.
- Reports missing/illegible labels and MSDS’s to supervisor.
- Participates in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills; demonstrates knowledge of fire and emergency policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high-school diploma or its equivalent.
- Proficiency in the use of American Sign Language.
- Three years’ experience in ASL/English interpretation is preferred.
- Completion of an accredited interpreter training program or equivalent certification.
- Previous experience working in senior living is preferred.
- Proficiency in the communication modes and techniques used by the DeafBlind population, including tactile American Sign Language (ASL).
- Maintain current CPR, First-Aid, and Food Handler cards.
- Must meet the standards for Sign Language Interpreters according to the Oregon Health Authority: Health Licensing Office
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English Language.
- Either a 3.5 EIPA Oregon state minimum score is required or NIC passing score.
- Proof of current and valid malpractice insurance.
- Must be a member of the Registry of the Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
- If required by the state regulation, must possess and maintain state certification.
- Ability to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination preferred, but not required
