The Position

We are seeking an Assistant Production Supervisor - 3rd Shift to be responsible for pour end manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in Manufacturing Operations. Excellent people skills combined with solid technical knowledge. You will assist the Manufacturing Supervisor in the development and management of multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. You will manage permanent and temporary employees in the pour and reheat zones with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, continuous improvement and 5S. You should have first-hand experience with modern manufacturing methodology including Lean Manufacturing. This will include but not limited to staffing, training, achieving efficiency standards, ensuring a quality product is produced, and achieving scheduled completion dates. You will learn the knowledge and skills in ERP systems to ensure production lines are set up with correct material and inventory is accurate. You will be responsible for 5S and continuous improvement activities on their respective lines and will provide support for department and site 5S and continuous improvement efforts.

The Location

We are located at 8860 Smith's Mill Rd, Ste 100, New Albany, OH 43054. This is an onsite position.

  • Ensures a safe work environment by communicating safety requirements, auditing, tracking, and providing feedback and corrective actions to employees and management. Participate in safety meetings/evaluations.
  • Supervises teams of employees in a process environment in the manufacturing of candles and home fragrance products.
  • Conduct daily attendance checks (physical and within ShopVue) and report inaccuracies to Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Will be expected to be a team member of the supervisory and management staff, chairing meetings, offering opinions, supporting initiatives, and treating co-workers with respect.
  • Will establish and/or participate in the creation of schedules and insure timely completion of commitments. Will be responsible for early detection of barriers to achieving schedule and providing work arounds and solutions. Will establish priorities; monitor progress; revise production schedules; resolve problems and report results on shift production.
  • Work with engineering to establish efficiency standards and measures performance to targets, tracks, reports, conducts root cause analysis, and corrective actions to maintain and improve efficiencies. Will be challenged with improving efficiencies of line production.
  • Will organize and conduct skills assessments and coordinate training to promote learning and address gaps in capabilities. Cross training will be a key component.
  • Will be accountable for the accurate accounting of materials while in the care of manufacturing and the timely return of those materials to stores if not consumed in the pouring process.
  • Will collect data, craft metrics, monitor trends and report to management on the health and well-being of manufacturing.
  • Will work with the pour leads as well as the wax department to ensure smooth start-ups and shutdowns.
  • Will be responsible for conducting carry over meetings between shifts to ensure critical and pertinent information is passed between shifts.
  • Will be responsible to communicate equipment issues to maintenance and monitor timely completions of repairs and improvements.
  • Maintains product quality. Work to identify defects and provide root cause and corrective actions as required.
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and personnel requirements. Goal is to streamline and sustain change.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of 5S. Conducts 5S audits and communicates issues and corrective actions to teams. Will be the 5S champion in manufacturing. Expectations are to constantly be observing and promote changes and improvements and sustain 5S.
  • Consults with the Manufacturing Supervisor and Manufacturing Manager and Human Resources to resolve personnel and staffing issues. Evaluates, develops, and disciplines employees.
  • Conducts all operations in accordance with state and federal laws, good business ethics, company policies, principles, and procedures under the direction of the Plant and Manufacturing Managers.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
  • Manages and develops strong leadership skills in line leaders and key production staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Ensure that all people throughout production lines are rotated systematically for cross training purposes as well as safety and ergonomic reasons.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate various machines
  • Ability to communicate equipment issues to maintenance & supervisors.
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills to deliver valuable teamwork (must understand English language)
  • Provide Production Supervision personnel with a daily shift notes report. To include major downtime, quality issues, mechanical issues, inventory issues, and corrective actions taken to correct.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • 3-5 years of related experience and/or training. Will consider a combination of experience and education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mathematical Skills – Understanding of basic math concepts. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios.
  • Computer Skills – Solid proficiency in use of PC’s/information systems as a management tool. PC skills to include at minimum Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Not afraid to adopt a hands-on approach and learn (and perfect) assembly techniques.
  • Understands capacity planning and has a vision for plant layout and workflow.
  • Must have excellent teamwork, strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid coaching, mentoring and motivation skills.
  • Must be able to foster an environment of mutual respect and professionalism on all levels.
  • Experience with 5S, poke-yoke implementation and Kaizen events
  • Action-orientated individual with a strong emphasis on closure and implementation.
