Job Description
Ideally, a NYC-based role, the Head of Production is responsible for operational and project oversight, project profitability, and department leadership across the production team. They have strong budgeting and people management skills, deep industry relationships, and can identify and implement process improvements across Set Creative’s production offering. The Head of Production will also be heavily involved in new business and responsible for leading the production effort on all pitch work.
Duties & Responsibilities
Project oversight
- Review all budgets and scope of work documents
- Review all budget reconciliations from staff producers and budget reconcile any freelance-led projects
- Ensure project review, budget reviews, and project reconciliation processes are client-friendly.
Vendors
- Oversee vendor relationships and continually improve our roster
- Support production staff to navigate any difficult vendor relationships
Team management
- Manage full-time production staff (~ 10 people)
- Manage freelancer production staff (up to 20 people at any given time)
Pitches
- Work closely on pitch work and be the leading production voice
- Project management, budgeting and production support of pitch work
Resourcing
- Oversee resourcing for production staff and ensure all projects are fully staffed from a production standpoint
- In partnership with Resource Manager, continually improve our roster of production freelancers, manage freelancer rates and review all timesheets and invoices for freelancers
Process
- Improve budget templates and budgeting process
- Work with account and creative teams to improve production staff’s project management skills and processes
Qualifications
- 12+ years in event production at an agency or similar environment
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced creative environment
- Ability to effectively and appropriately interact with co-workers at a variety of levels, across many disciplines
- Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills required
- Strong financial understanding of budgeting, estimating, and agency profitability
- A demonstrated track record of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound critical thinking skills and maintaining composure in stressful situations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of employees
- Highly organized with a keen sense of attention to detail
- Exceptional initiative and follow-through skills
- After-hours work and overnight travel may be required
The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $125,000 to $295,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications.
