Job Description
Consolidated Metals is a leading manufacturer of steel tubing products. Join our growing, entrepreneurial company as a Production Planner. The Production Planner is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the production process.
Key Tasks:
Planning and Scheduling Plant:
- Create, schedule and monitor work orders to meet customer requirements.
- Create production schedule to meet customer demand while optimizing resources
- Analyze demand forecasts (work orders) and historical data to anticipate future production needs and adjust plans accordingly. Create and monitor rolling schedules for mills. Advise lead times for all.
- Create, maintain, monitor all production related targets for assigned location, including mill speeds or pieces per hour capabilities, schedules, set-up times, down times, scrap or any other factor affecting production.
- Analyze actual production against targets, implement corrective actions or make necessary adjustments to schedule assumptions.
- Monitor capacity – work with manager to create plan for bottlenecks or periods of low demand. Communicate open capacity opportunities and filled capacity concerns.
- Finalize work orders – document any performance variance to plan (pieces per hour or scrap) – use info to update data tracking. Ensure accurate costing.
- Proactively monitor ship dates to customers – ensure OTD or advise and plan.
- Proactively monitor incoming materials to ensure timely application to work order – advise concerns.
- Share production plan and communicate issues, changes and solutions to Customer Service and Sales leaders.
- Maintain stocking programs as assigned.
- Lean:
- Track daily, weekly or monthly Lean metrics
- Work with internal and external teams to improve lead time and drive cost and process improvements.
- Participate in lean activities to improve overall output, quality or other.
- Logistics:
- Create, schedule and monitor freight orders to meet customer requirements.
- Timely submission of all required documents for invoicing.
- Other Operational Support (Personnel/Inventory/Supplies):
- Work with plant to ensure safe, quality, efficient, cost-effective, on-time delivery of tube, based on customer specifications.
- Work with plant to improve quality reduce scrap and reduce excess/aged inventory.
- Review customer/schedule needs against resources and make recommendations for efficient utilization of people and machines, including staffing levels and OT.
Requirements:Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in production planning & scheduling
Experience and knowledge in Steel – preferably steel tube manufacturing and fabrication
Good math and computer skills.
Lean experience is highly preferred
