The Production Scheduler (Production Scheduler II internally) is responsible for creating, scheduling, and releasing production orders to manufacturing, ensuring that all necessary materials and resources are available. The role involves close coordination with the Materials Manager, Warehouse staff, and Material Handlers to prioritize inventory transfers and manage the flow of materials to support production. The Production Scheduler will proactively manage work orders to meet production schedules and address material shortages by liaising with Material Planners and Buyers. This role also involves creating and maintaining dispatch lists and assisting with pick lists for warehouse personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This role's key responsibilities are:
- Production Order Management: Create, schedule, and release production orders to the manufacturing floor at least 14 days in advance of the start date to ensure timely picking and transfer of materials.
- Inventory Coordination: Work with the Materials Manager and Warehouse staff to prioritize the transfer of inventory from post-inspection locations to the designated storage bins.
- Material Availability: Review the availability of component parts and identify any material shortages, communicating these to Material Planners and Buyers to resolve issues before they impact production.
- Work Order Scheduling: Exercise judgment in pulling and scheduling work orders with distant due dates to fill gaps in production scheduling, maintaining flexibility within the 14-day release window.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Assist Material Handlers by preparing and providing pick lists for warehouse operations and dispatch lists for both Manufacturing and Materials Management on a rolling 14-day period.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve scheduling and inventory management processes to ensure smooth production flow and timely deliveries.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Years of Experience, Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- 3-7 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or inventory management in a manufacturing environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production planning software.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work across departments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve inventory and scheduling challenges.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in production scheduling and inventory management systems.
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
