Amerlux, a pioneer in the lighting industry for over 35 years, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineerto join our production team . This position works full time on-site in our Oakland, NJ production facility. The hours are 7:00 to 3:30 Monday through Friday.
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for maintaining Amerlux's record of continuous improvement by deploying a variety of tools, processes and concepts that improve business performance and by ensuring associate actions and activities support Amerlux goals. This role will lead continuous improvement activities throughout the manufacturing plant.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in the development of lean manufacturing programs in regards to the Quality Control process.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Engineering on value engineering projects for the purpose of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Develops process and capital equipment proposals that will improve productivity and quality with rapid pay-back and short implementation times.
- Develops accurate production cost estimates to guide decision making.
- Develops and maintains accurate routings.
- Produces accurate and complete CNC programming to accommodate all applicable equipment.
- Using modern concepts, identifies opportunities to make significant gains in product quality and productivity through changes in production processes, people processes, and manufacturing systems.
- Participate in the development and training of assembly and fabrication personnel to establish proper methods and ensure high quality performance and productivity.
- Promote and facilitate the diagnosis of flow of work and information to identify improvement priorities.
- Drive the identification and adoption of "best practices' throughout fabrication and assembly.
- Work with assembly and fabrication team members to facilitate process improvement through the use of tools, jigs, cell modification and/or workflow adjustment.
- Design tooling/fixtures to assist assembly line and fabrication to improve quality, consistency and output.
- Recommendation of drawing modifications based on identified errors and/or omissions.
- Review customer specific projects with engineering team. Act as an approver of engineering releases for production.
- Work closely with Floor supervisors and Quality team to develop test procedures, jig/rig design and documentation.
- Assist Quality Team with root cause investigation for reoccurring and critical issues.
- Drive the identification and adoption of "best practices" throughout the manufacturing operations.
- Perform and analyze benchmarking studies as required.
- Conduct time studies for both assembly and fabrication.
- Responsible for maintaining / creating work instructions or Standard Operating Procedures related to Fabrication.
- Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure proper operation for quality and productivity.
- Review CAD files provided by Engineering to create CNC programs.
- Create CNC programs that assures that stock sheet yields are maximized.
- Trouble shoots problems related to CNC programs and set-ups.
- Communicates any changes to Engineering that impact routings, time study, etc.
- Programming the following: CNC PrimaPower E5 and Amada Punch Combo Machine.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Company and Management.
- BS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Lean Six Sigma
- 2 plus years production and/or product engineering experience in light electrical and mechanical manufacturing envirnment.
- AutoCAD or Inventor and CNC programming experience.
- Must be able to read basic electrical schematics and have basic familiarity with electrical safety measurers and equipment.
- Excellent communication, instruction and presentation skills.
- Exposer to and participation in new product development processes.
- Good writing and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Oracle ERP sytem.
- Precision sheet metal fabrication. Ability to read blue prints, verify flat pattern development and generate CN program.
- Knowlege of NC Express and Doctor Abe software a plus.
- Previous Set-Up and operating experience with various types of CNC equipment - Turret, Saw and Press Breaks - a plus.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process.
