The Manufacturing Engineer is the internal technical product owner through all aspects of Vanguard’s processes and is therefore generally the first point of contact and fills necessary gaps to ensure the product is built correctly and efficiently. This role is the engineering interface to our customers and as such must present a superior level of technical understanding and ability to communicate effectively to both engineers and non-engineers. The position is member of our Customer Focus Teams, but also interfaces closely with Process Engineering, Test Engineering, Production and Quality.

Responsibilities
- Engage with customers on a variety of technical discussions and support technical inquires/requests.
- Contribute to quoting process by estimating labor, tooling and any other costs associated with meeting customer requirements.
- Identify when customer requirements exceed internal capabilities and lead projects to improve processes, infrastructure and equipment to meet customer needs.
- Drive DFX with data captured from process development, NPI builds and our internal knowledge base so that customers receive feedback in a timely manner and information is communicated effectively in a way that provides them the highest value.
- Ensure all customer/regulatory requirements are met for product throughout all Vanguard processes.
- Lead Root Cause and Corrective Actions for defects, yield improvement and escapes.
- Collect, analyze and drive action from manufacturing data.
- Create, coordinate, review and approve internal product documentation.
- Support resolving supply chain and electronics piece part issues.
- Identify all tooling, fixturing and equipment requirements and lead the design, procurement and validation.
- Identify, communicate and mitigate risks using FMEA or equivalent tools.
- Provide hands on support during NPI and Pilot builds to ensure processes are working effectively and issues are resolved in real time.
- Provide technical training to technicians and operators
- Utilize Design of Experiments to establish new processes and drive improvements to existing.
- Support production technicians and operators on issues that arise.
- Both lead and support process improvement efforts with the team.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Engineering Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Manufacturing or related discipline. Or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years’ experience in electronics manufacturing.
- Customer service orientated (internal and external) with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly skilled at navigating and interpreting both Electrical and Mechanical CAD/Drawings.
- Deep knowledge of DFX for electronics assemblies and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Strong working knowledge of SMT & Through-Hole Soldering, Component Prep, Automated Inspection Systems, Wash & Cleanliness, Electro-Mechanical Assembly, Coating/Staking/Bonding, etc.
- Ability to challenge requirements using technical rationale, data and collaboratively work to develop more effective requirements.
- Demonstrated experience setting up and executing DOE’s.
- Deep understanding of SPC and manufacturing data analysis.
- Strong understanding of material science as it relates to material selection, solder, flux, adhesives, etc.
- Experience in an ISO9001 / AS9100 / ISO13485 certified quality management system.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC 7711/7721, IPC-A-600, and/or ANSI/ESD S20.20.
- Proficiency in business systems such as MES, PLM, ERP, MRB.
