Position Summary:
Revolution Space is searching for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge space flight hardware. Working closely with program leads and senior engineers, the Manufacturing Engineer will develop the production capability for next-generation platforms. This dynamic and impactful role includes significant development, testing, and documentation of production processes and tools.
This position is available immediately onsite in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities:
- Designs, implements, and maintains manufacturing processes in an industrial plant.
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
- Prepares manufacturing documentation, including process flow charts and work instructions for use in all manufacturing processes.
- Transitions new products into production (NPI) while working closely with design engineers and manufacturing technicians throughout the initial build.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow; designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with engineering concerning product design and tooling to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methods are incorporated into the design.
- Confers with vendors to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and other costs related to the manufacturing process, including work instruction development and tool/fixture design and fabrication.
- Performs debugging and troubleshooting efforts on defective items; works with Quality Engineering to drive root cause / corrective action activities.
Required Qualifications:
- BS degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with 3+ years’ relevant work experience; OR 10+ years relevant work experience without a technical degree.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance if needed. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a zero-defect manufacturing environment such as aerospace or medical devices.
- Experience with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) such as Tulip or Critical MFG.
- 1 year of SolidWorks CAD experience or equivalent CAD experience such as Creo, NX or CATIA.
- Well versed in Lean concepts (waste reduction, value stream mapping, 5S, just-in-time delivery), and the application of statistical methods in manufacturing.
- This position will require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, work with microscopes, and occasionally work in a clean room.
