Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer/Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
Manufacturing Engineers for Aeronautics Systems are expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems. They are problem solvers who have the ability to provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.
We seek Manufacturing Engineers that use a unique skill set that includes a hands-on approach and act as the technical representative voice for the Manufacturing organization.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will design and develop manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling. Other duties may include:
- Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
- Software Development experience, with an understanding of regression and validation testing.
- The ability to troubleshoot user issues and support engineers daily.
- Heavy emphasis and experience with digital manufacturing tools and digital thread.
- Self-starter can manage projects with little to no supervision.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Manufacturing Engineer:
- Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations; OR Master's Degree with 3 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations; OR PhD with 0 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance, including Special Access Program within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
- Experience with reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with root cause & corrective action processes and techniques.
- Ability to work any shift as needed by the business.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer:
- Bachelor's Degree with 9 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations; OR Master's Degree with 7 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations; OR PhD with 4 years of experience in engineering, production assembly/fabrication or manufacturing operations.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance, including Special Access Program within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
- Experience with reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with root cause & corrective action processes and techniques.
- Ability to work any shift as needed by the business.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical).
- Composites knowledge (i.e., hand layup, automated layup, cure experience, and/or machining experience).
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience authoring, modifying, and auditing work procedures.
- Able to utilize Catia V5 and/or NX.
- Teamcenter CPLM experience.
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems and ERP systems.
- Understand assembly line tooling processes.
- Have worked in an Agile environment, using Agile software to manage daily tasks.
- Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment.
- Experience with Siemens suite of tools including Easy Plan, Process Simulation and understand PLM workflows.
- Secret or Top-Secret clearance.
Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
Salary Range 2: $120,900 - $181,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
