Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineering Technician supports the engineering team in designing, developing, testing, and improving manufacturing processes and equipment within an automotive production environment. This role focuses on enhancing efficiency, ensuring product quality, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment, including troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
- Support the design, development, and implementation of new manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Collaborate with engineers to modify and optimize production equipment to meet production goals.
- Conduct tests and inspections on machinery and parts to ensure compliance with quality standards, including ISO/TS 16949.
- Analyze and resolve production process issues, ensuring minimal downtime and consistent product quality.
- Utilize CAD software to create or update tooling and equipment designs.
- Assist with the installation and validation of new manufacturing equipment, including testing for performance and functionality.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Train operators and technicians on the use and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering Technology or equivalent technical training.
- Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with CAM programs.
- Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and automation systems.
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, stamping, welding, or injection molding.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt).
- Experience working in an ISO 14001 and IATF 16949-certified manufacturing environment.q
- Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems.
- Knowledge of robotics or automated manufacturing systems.
Work Environment
- Exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including heavy machinery and equipment.
- May involve standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 50 lbs
