WHO WE ARE
The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) is a free public charter school that will grow to serve grades 6 through 12 in Sussex County, Delaware. Opening in the fall of 2024 with grades 6, 7, and 8, BASSE aims to provide a personalized academic experience focusing on service-learning and leadership opportunities for our students and staff. Inspired by our school's namesake, Bryan Stevenson, a prolific social justice activist and lawyer from Milton, Delaware, the BASSE community has dedicated its mission to proximity. We will create pathways for our students, families, and communities by getting close to those facing challenges and partnering with them to create solutions.

This position requires approximately 37.5 hours per week for 12 months. A criminal background check and TB test are required.

- You can develop a working knowledge of the school climate, facilities, staff, systems, and operations of BASSE
- You desire to aid all personnel and families in successfully enhancing the culture, educational capacity, and operations of BASSE through proper sanitizing and cleaning of all responsible areas
- You remain organized, manage time effectively, and report to work promptly.
- You are able to work on your feet for the entire duration of your work hours.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of School and direction of the manager of operations and facilities, the Custodian will:
- Clean and sanitize designated areas.
- Empty trash, sweep, mop, and vacuum all offices, classrooms, hallways, and restrooms in designated areas.
- Wipe down all windows and blinds.
- Clean, dust, and wipe down all furniture.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, such as buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees, for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
- Perform cleaning and related activities, such as removing snow or debris from parking lots, sidewalks, and stairs, using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
- Assist in maintaining safety measures.
- Refill restroom supplies and chemical feeds as needed.
- Attend to clean-ups as they are called in.
- Assist in the re-organizing of physical spaces (classrooms, caf, etc).
- Organize and maintain the cleanliness of communal spaces.
- Assist in grounds maintenance (could include, but is not limited to, grass cutting, mulching, weeding, planting, and trimming).
- Other duties as assigned
This position requires approximately 37.5 hours per week for 12 months. A criminal background check and TB test are required.
Required and Desired Attributes
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous custodial experience preferred.
