- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Ability to read labels on containers and materials used in the course of work.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to climb and use ladders effectively.
- Physically sound and able to lift or move large or heavy objects such as furniture, boxes, machinery, etc.
- Knowledge of how to use equipment, and train others in the use of equipment.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
- Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
Reports To: Building Administrator / Director of Maintenance
Supervises: Building janitors
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Sweep, mop, scrub and wax floors, using the necessary floor machines such as buffing-scrubbers and wet/dry vacuum machines.
- Wash walls, windows and woodwork.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Dust, polish, arrange and move furniture and equipment.
- Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
- Clean white Boards.
- Report to the principal any damage to property.
- Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal.
- Set up assembly areas when/where needed as directed by the principal / director.
- Specific duties as specified by the building principal.
- Use school vehicle to pick up supplies or deliveries from central services.
- Assume responsibilities for the opening and closing of the building each school day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights--except those left on for safety reasons--are turned off.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- Make such minor building and equipment repairs as he/she is capable of.
- Wash utensils used for eating or drinking, as required or requested.
- Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand and requisition such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so they may be delivered in such time as to not hinder the custodial program.
- Clean school campus; cut grass, trim shrubs; edge walks, curbs and planted areas; rake grass; plant shrubs and perform other lawn care duties as required.
- Monthly maintenance on all building A/C units.
- Perform other custodial tasks assigned to him/her by an immediate supervisor.
- Supports the George County School District Core Beliefs and Mission.
