Position Overview:

A custodian is responsible for making sure that a building is always kept clean. Custodians will be responsible for cleaning according to the standards set by Manchester University. This includes light maintenance and other miscellaneous duties to ensure all University facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and clean manner for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Clean and service restrooms, classrooms, study areas, kitchen areas, lounge areas, lobbies, elevators, hallways, and stairwells
  • Keep to the cleaning schedules that are set by the supervisor and lead custodian
  • Re-stock materials in bathrooms and maintain the cleanliness of all dispensers so they are in proper functioning order
  • Clean and maintain floors in all buildings
  • Remove trash and maintain the cleanliness of containers
  • Open and unlock facilities on weekdays
  • Clean and maintain entrances including snow removal up to the main walkway
  • Clean windows, glass, vents, walls and maintain a nice environment in buildings and around
  • Dust in high and low places keeping within the APPA standards
  • Maintain cleaning logs to show cleaning schedule is complete
  • Change light bulbs as needed and report work orders

Secondary Job Functions

  • Maintain and complete stripping and waxing of floors
  • Maintain and complete carpet cleaning
  • Window maintenance on the outside
  • Outside trash removal
  • Complete work orders when assigned
  • Complete summer deep cleaning in all buildings
  • Summertime turnover in buildings to ensure clean and safe environment on campus
  • Check emails on a weekly basis to ensure communication requirements
  • Maintaining custodial closets with a clean and organized environment
  • Complete training when assigned
  • Launder cleaning materials
  • Carries out extra duties as instructed by the Director of Custodial

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring Forty hours per week and does require scheduled weekends. Potential overtime that includes all hours and weekends when required for certain circumstances.
