The Custodian will ensure all publicly accessible areas of the Courthouse are clean and organized for the public to use. This position will be responsible for emptying trashcans, dusting, cleaning kitchenette areas, and vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing floors, sanitizing surfaces, changing out light bulbs, and restocking janitorial supplies. This position will also maintain supply inventory, submit purchase requests, and assist with preparations for events in the community room. To be a successful Custodian, the person should be observant, respectful, motivated, and committed to providing visitors and staff with a clean, orderly place to conduct business.

Job Description
- Working with other team member(s) to ensure all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Gather and empty all trash and recycling bins.
- Clean windows.
- Observing proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions.
- Responsible for disinfecting furniture and equipment as needed.
- Perform light maintenance duties on parts and equipment of courthouse. Changing light bulbs. Reporting major maintenance to the proper personnel.
- Responsible for properly stocking areas with janitorial supplies and submitting requests when items need to be replenished.
- Maintenance of lawn and landscape.
- Move furniture, equipment and supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Union County Sheriff.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Custodial experience or training preferred.
- Understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures.
- Pass a background check and post-employment screening.
- Be conscientious and able to work independently to achieve duties assigned (unsupervised).
- Be familiar with custodial equipment (e.g. floor buffers, carpet cleaners, etc.).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be able to perform duties assigned.
- Ability to listen, understand and process work instructions.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Must have organizational and planning skills.
